Be a Teacher of Life

A Course in Miracles is a course in wholeness of mind. It is an instruction manual for becoming aware that your mind is one with the Mind that created it. Thus it follows that it is a course in totality, in completeness. “The practical application of the Holy Spirit’s purpose is extremely simple, but it is unequivocal. In fact, in order to be simple it must be unequivocal. The simple is merely what is easily understood, and for this it is apparent that it must be clear.” (T:17,1)

The Course works because it only says one thing. It is total in that one thing, and it doesn’t say anything but that. Because of this, it is very simple. The only reason it seems complicated is because you don’t believe the one thing that it says. Nothing you perceive (see, hear, think, say) is true. Unless it is part of an experience that transports you to a different realm of being in which you know yourself completely. This experience is what the Course refers to as forgiveness. It has the capacity to show you beyond the possibility of doubt that this world is not true. The experience is characterised by joy. It is still not actually true.. but it is part of your coming to truth. Forgiveness is the illusion that ends all illusions. If this is your experience, it means your dream of death has become a dream of awakening, and for that you can be grateful! For that you can be grateful indeed!!

The miraculous nature of this teaching comes from the fact that it cannot be compromised if it is to be taught. A mind that is teaching A Course in Miracles does not have the ability to compromise the teaching. The clarity of the concepts is so obvious and so powerful, and if it is watered down with human thinking it becomes nothing, like everything here. It becomes just another blank perception, another invention of nothingness. It becomes dry and boring like everything in form! It becomes dead. The teaching of the concepts, whether verbally or mentally (with your whole being), is a direct transmission of life, an offering of resurrection to your brother in the wholeness of Christ. If it stirs up and regenerates an individual, if it enlightens or enlivens them, if it enlightens or enlivens you as you express yourself, then you are teaching A Course in Miracles. If nothing happens, if there is no spark of recognition, alive-ness, joy, if there is no dislodgment of human identity, if there is no change, then no teaching has occurred. You are a teacher of life or a teacher of death in each moment, and the reaction you receive, in your own self or that of another, will tell you what you are teaching.

“I have stated that the basic concepts referred to in this course are not matters of degree. Certain fundamental concepts cannot be understood in terms of opposites.” (T:3,2) The belief in levels or degrees is a belief in conflict. The understanding that the teaching is total and has no exceptions, is a belief in God.

Do you have some secret problems that you hide from the Holy Spirit’s reach? Are there some elements of your ‘life’ on earth that you believe are untouchable by His gentle hand? (Be honest! Do you want peace? Then you must be honest with yourself! You cannot be helped if you do not need help!) Are there some dark corners of your mind that you prefer to wallow in occasionally and that you believe are beyond the Mind that is everything? “There is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not ‘harder’, or ‘bigger’ than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal.” (T:1,1) If there are some areas that are beyond His help, then you are teaching the opposite of this course.

“It is impossible to conceive of light and darkness or everything and nothing as joint possibilities. There are all true or all false. It is essential that you realise your thinking will be erratic until a firm commitment to one or the other is made.” (T:3,2) In order to be whole, your thinking must be whole, and in order for your thinking to be whole you must accept the totality of the teaching. You must recognise that the thoughts you have about things do not have any meaning beyond what you give them, that the forms you see and think about are the projection of your own private thoughts, and the use that you have for them (to justify your reality as a separate form) is irrelevant to reality.

“A firm commitment to darkness or nothingness however, is impossible. No one has ever lived who has not experienced some light and some thing. No one, therefore, is able to deny truth totally, even if he thinks he can.” (T:3,2) Take comfort in this fact! You cannot deny God totally! Even if you think this is within your power, it is not, and has never been. You can not actually be separate or apart from what you are in truth. Your creation is eternal, and is occurring now. You are one with the Mind that Creates, and Creates Now! You ARE in an experience of purity, forgiveness, and release of the world of pain. You DO value the formless, the perfect, the real, beyond what you see as before you and having reality in form. You DO want the truth of yourself, you DO want peace, you DO want God. So give yourself away! Let every thought and interaction be a giving of the Love that expresses itself unconditionally and eternally through you. Let yourself be changed by the spark of enlightenment, enlivenment, that is yours to see, to give, to think about, to extend, expand, to value, to cherish and to love. Let yourself be taught by the Mind that sees everything as one. Let yourself be a teacher of God, a teacher of truth, a teacher of Life.

The Dream is Over

Yesterday I had an experience that I would like to share with you. I was asleep and dreaming. (Now I am asleep and dreaming that I am at my keyboard writing a blog post, but yesterday I was asleep in bed within the dream, dreaming!!) It was raining outside, and suddenly I realised it was also raining inside the room, that water was pouring down near the walls and everything was getting soaking wet. I went into crisis mode of ‘Ok, disater is occuring, what do I do, where’s the hatch onto the roof, how do I stop this happening, how did it happen and why?’… And then… I woke up.

What did I do when I woke up? Did I continue to try to solve the problem as it had been presented to me a moment previously? Did I assert that my fabrication was really happening and continue to try to discover a solution? Did I ponder over how this could possibly have happened and why things of value to me were being destroyed? NO!!! I recognised that what I thought a moment previously had been happening had not occured. I realised that what I had experienced within the dream was not real, and had never happened. I understood in a second that the disaster I had seen occur was a fabrication of a mind asleep – my mind asleep. It didn’t need me to think about it or try to understand it or solve it in any way. Any time spent on pondering its cause or its solution was going to be wasted time, spent on something entirely ridiculous and unneccesary.

“The world you see [in front of you and all around you, right now] has nothing to do with reality. It is of your own making, and it does not exist.”

“Sit quietly and look upon the world you see, and tell yourself: ‘The real world is not like this. It has no buildings and there are no streets where people walk alone and separate. There are no stores where people buy an endless list of things they do not need. It is not lit with artificial light, and night comes not upon it. There is no day that brightens and grows dim. There is no loss. Nothing is there but shines, and shines forever’.”

This is what forgiveness is: being still and letting your Father show you what is real. In this moment of awakening it is as obvious that your body-identity in space and time has never happened as it was to me when I awoke that the dream was not real. The light that you are shown in your mind entirely dispels all your ideas of a separate identity. The light you are given and that you join with is so clearly your own identity, and is so obviously the thing for which you have always, always been searching; it nourishes you so deeply and so fully, it reaches places in your soul that you had given up ever being reached by anything; it fills you with a clarity and a joy so rich that you understand in a second that that deep nourishing beauty is what love is, what God is, and what You Are, and in that holy instant you are free from all dreams of disaster. There are no more questions in your mind, no more analyses and no more attempts to solve your problem and thus hold onto it. You are free. The question of your identity, your cause, has been answered, and as all questions and problems come from this one core delusion, all of them are gone as one.

“There is a light in you the world can not perceive. And with its eyes you will not see this light, for you are blinded by the world. Yet you have eyes to see it. It is there for you to look upon. It was not placed in you to be kept hidden from your sight. This light is a reflection of the thought we practice now. To feel the Love of God within you is to see the world anew, shining in innocence, alive with hope, and blessed with perfect charity and love.

Who could feel fear in such a world as this? It welcomes you, rejoices that you came, and sings your praises as it keeps you safe from every form of danger and of pain. It offers you a warm and gentle home in which to stay a while. It blesses you throughout the day, and watches through the night as silent guardian of your holy sleep. It sees salvation in you, and protects the light in you, in which it sees its own. It offers you its flowers and its snow, in thankfulness for your benevolence.

This is the world the Love of God reveals. It is so different from the world you see through darkened eyes of malice and of fear, that one belies the other. Only one can be perceived at all. The other one is wholly meaningless. A world in which forgiveness shines on everything, and peace offers its gentle light to everyone, is inconceivable to those who see a world of hatred rising from attack, poised to avenge, to murder and destroy.

Yet is the world of hatred equally unseen and inconceivable to those who feel God’s Love in them. Their world reflects the quietness and peace that shines in them; the gentleness and innocence they see surrounding them; the joy with which they look out from the endless wells of joy within. What they have felt in them they look upon, and see its sure reflection everywhere.”

I thank my Father eternally for the experience I am given that shows me that nothing in this world is true. I give thanks for His Grace, which in this holy instant dissolves my world entirely and reminds me unequivocally of my identity in the Heaven of His Mind. I recognise in this instant that the world is a fabrication of a mind asleep – my mind asleep; that it is my responsibility to release it through the experience of its unreality and the true vision that comes from that experience. Thank you Father for my job, and for making it possible, where without you it would be impossible indeed.

Meeting the Christ

Today I find myself in Section 3, Chapter 27 of A Course in Miracles: Beyond All Symbols.

From paragraph 3: “The picture of your brother that you see means nothing. There is nothing to attack or to deny; to love or hate, or to endow with power or to see as weak.” Here is a reminder that your body’s eyes literally see nothing. The projection of a thought of a body that you had a long time ago cannot be before you here and now. There is no thought of separation that can be sustained if you are wholly present in your Father’s love. A Course in Miracles is the reminder that you ARE wholly present in your Father’s love, despite your ongoing assertion that you are not!

“The picture has been wholly cancelled out, because it symbolized a contradiction that cancelled out the thought it represents.” The image that your body’s eyes perceive IS your desire to be without God. The thought your brother’s body represents is ‘I wonder what it’s like to be separate from God’, ‘I want to be separate’, ‘God is not my identity and Source’ or some variation of this idea. It is an insane thought, but one that through the unfathomably strong power of mind actually makes a world within which to sustain and justify itself. The thought is itself a contradiction, because you are what You Are. You cannot change your eternal reality. You cannot change yourSelf. Really, your will is God’s will. You have no will but God’s. Your true identity cannot change, and your desire cannot be for it to change. Therefore the picture you make of your brother, a separate thing outside of you, is not your will; you do not really want the attack, murder, revenge, aggression and rage that your brother’s body represents to you as a demonstration of your desire to be separate. The contradiction that you want what God wants and you also have your own separate will destroys the possibility that you wholly want what can only harm you. “And thus the picture has no cause at all.”

And “Who can perceive effect without a cause?” Jesus’ method of returning your mind to its rightful place is to convince you through experiential means that your insanity has had no effect. His assignment is to show you that your mind has not created in separation, creation is impossible in separation, and therefore what you believe you have made has not been made. It has no meaning and therefore it does not exist. “What can the causeless be but nothingness?” Nothing is cause that is not wholeness. Nothing can create that is not true. Nothing that comes from a contradiction can have any meaning. All that has meaning comes from God, Who is whole, Who’s Mind encompasses everything that Is. When you really see that the world you believe is real has no meaning, you will be willing to focus your entire self upon the truth, and you will know your Father. “To be in the Kingdom is merely to focus your full attention on it” (Text, 6, 3, 4).

“The picture of your brother that you see is wholly absent and has never been. Let, then, the empty space it occupies be recognized as vacant, and the time devoted to its seeing be perceived as idly spent, a time unoccupied. An empty space that is not seen as filled, an unused interval of time not seen as spent and fully occupied, become a silent invitation to the truth to enter, and to make itself at home.” This is really your job. Your job is to recognize nothingness and do nothing about it. Your job is to release the meaning that you have given to everything you see, and to let it show you of itself what It Is. Your job is to let your Father replace all the images you have made with the endless, infinite glory of His Reality. Your job is to know your Father through realising that you don’t know what anything is and you don’t know what anything is for. He will show you then the truth that your world is infact causeless, that you as you know yourself are causeless, and that your desire to be what you are not has had no real effects.

“No preparation can be made that would enhance the invitation’s real apeal. For what you leave as vacant God will fill, and where He is there must the truth abide.” This reminds me of “You prepare your mind for [the holy instant] only to the extent of recognizing that you want it above all else” (Text, 18, 4, 1). The desire to be with God is what being with God is. Not from a place of wanting, but from a place of certainty, gentleness, and gratitude.

“The picture of your brother given you to occupy the space so lately left unoccupied and vacant will not need defense of any kind. For you will give it overwhelming preference. Nor delay an instant in deciding that it is the only one you want.” Your will is God’s. Your will is whole. You want truth. You want to know yourSelf. And everything you want is given you.

Your Father is here with you. HERE with you, in THIS space and time. In THIS moment of emptiness of all form. In this moment He will come and make His abode in you, and you will know yourSelf as with Him, in Him, as Him. This experience is what forgiveness is, and it is available to you, now, and only now.

Thank you for reading and thank you for needing Truth. My heart is with you forever.

Master Teacher Reminds Me I Am Space

I had a beautiful experience with Master Teacher during our recent retreat in La Finca de Milagros near Benitachell in Spain. Tim played us the video ‘The Presence of God is Shining in me Now’, (workbook lesson 188 in A Course in Miracles), from Master Teacher’s ‘Illuminate Mind-Training’ Series. It is an incredibly powerful video, where the Master demonstrates clearly his own perfect certainty of universal reality and his own identity as that.

I was standing up, with my eyes closed, receiving a joyful exposure to the light of truth that Master Teacher’s mind emits. The joy is always in opening myself fully to the energy that is being transmitted by the mind that is teaching. That energy is powerfully transformative and awakens and activates my own desire to be with God, to be whole and totally immersed by and nourished in the gloriously rich and infinite expansion of His Heart and Mind.

In an instant I was given a deeper availability to join my mind with that of the Master and in that moment he was with me and he entered me physically, as in, his body stepped inside mine. I received a very gentle knowledge that we are the same thing; there is one body, one mind, only one thing actually occurring in all the apparently infinite complexity of space and time. The one thing that is occurring is mind coming home to itself, and the mind that is coming home to its Father’s grace and presence and joy is mine.

I felt the intimacy and tenderness with which the mind of Christ is offered through a whole mind in a clear declaration of its whole self, and of that one Self becoming one with me: that apparent separate body entering mine and showing me that we are the same.

In the next instant I was shown that we were out in space. I lifted my arms and swung them around a little and realised the stars were all around me! I was out in space with Master Teacher, being shown that I am him and I am space and I am the entire universe.

A short while later the video finished and we had a ‘light session’ with music – an opportunity to stand in the light with your brother and experience the joy of whole mind being itself with no distractions of the human mind. It is a time to be still and allow all the energy of the teaching session to release in a moment of genuine direct contact with your Father. Though I had opened my eyes and moved around I was still very much in the deep and very gentle super high frequency of light with the Master Teacher and as I stayed with him I believe I had my first real experiential understanding of what it is to be deeply in contact with myself.

I was deep, deep within, the world outside of me was irrelevant, though perfectly lovely and safe. Energetically it felt like I had fallen back and down, into a space just below my belly. My mind was not aware of the limits of my body identity. My physicality was shared completely with the space around me, the wall that the Son of God has built to enclose his separate self (A Course in Miracles, ‘What is the Body?’) was not in my awareness. My self is space and I was fully in contact with that reality.

The experience was one of richness and beauty and grace. The feeling of completely accepting everything that was occurring ‘out there’ in my perception lasted a couple of days. I was so deep in the safety and peace of my Father’s knowledge of me that nothing occurred around me that could upset that. My perception was whole, because my centre was so secure. I knew that I am the centre of my experience and that I am totally responsible for putting out there exactly what I want to see. And because my only desire was to experience grace, I perceived only joy. It was an experience of vision, of seeing truly, from the one true standpoint of acceptance of my whole Self; and the perception of beauty that is allowed or extended from the mind that is experiencing that state.

This experience is added to my storehouse of treasures, to the pile of bright references that give me stronger and stronger confidence in the value of the path that I am engaged in and the association that I have with my brothers who share the need that I have to be closer and ever closer to the Father of all creation.

‘I am not a body, I am free, for I am still as God create(s) me’ here and now! (Workbook lesson 199, A Course in Miracles). Thank you Master Teacher, for your deep certainty of Self that allows me to experience my own. And thank you Father, for bringing me home to you, in ongoing experiences of the safety, security and tenderness of your everlasting love.

Popping In and Out: The Expression of the Holy Instant

From chapter 17, section 5 of A Course in Miracles: “The holy relationship is the expression of the holy instant in living in this world. Like everything about salvation, the holy relationship is a practical device, witnessed to by its results. The holy instant never fails. The experience of it is always felt. Yes without expression it is not remembered. The holy relationship is a constant reminder of the experience in which the relationship became what it is.”

My experience of the beauty of my holy relationship with you: I’m going to be with you now and forever in our joyful union of mind and let the beautiful love that is your identity, which is God, nourish me eternally to the very nucleus of each single cell of my physicality and beyond to the atomic structure of my being, where I share the same space with you and all the universe of life, and I and we and it are popping in and out of existence and through the veils of multi-dimensionality continuously!

Amen.

The Mechanics of Mis-Creation

We’re going deep into the abyss with this one, folks! Deep into the black hole of separate self. More to come soon on the joy of the release and the beauty of the experience of being the quasar! Hang in there for just one moment…. 🙂

Lessons 16 and 17 of A Course in Miracles are “I have no neutral thoughts” and “I see no neutral things”. My recent practice of these lessons gave me a clear image as a direct teaching of them. The feeling or the energy of this teaching was one of tight constriction. The image was of a thick mat of woven fibres, the tiniest threads woven into cords, those wound together into thicker strands, and those wound around each other to form thick cables. These cables made up a dense mat of thought association, and I saw that every thought I have is a thread weaving itself into this mat, making it stronger, and stronger.

“I see no neutral things” because I have projected my thoughts about myself onto a cosmic field of potential, inventing a web, a fabric of fragmented references. A mat, literally a matrix of woven thoughts. Everything the body’s eyes ‘see’ (for this is not real seeing) is an image made by the mind that wants its matrix of mind association to be true. So rather than being neutral and passive, everything I see is the determination of the mind to make this energetic fabric of thought true, and the declaration of its own belief in it. Every image I see therefore, including my own image of myself as a body, is an active assertion and demonstration of the death and unreality of heaven, light, and God, and the reality of infinite fragmentation, separation, and therefore suffering and ultimately death. “I have no neutral thoughts” because every thought I have is another thread that the mind is actively weaving into its matrix of thought association. Every objective thought you have, any thought about something, including the self you think you are, is therefore equally and actively destructive.

The learning of this course can be explained as learning what an attack thought is. Lesson 23 is “I can escape from the world I see by giving up attack thoughts”. If you could see clearly what the mind is and how it works you would not need this course. The realisation necessary is that the action of mind that produces a conceptual thought is what attack is. And the action of mind that heals, that extends, that releases, that gives, that teaches all the universe the truth about itself, is what we call forgiveness.
